Speckstrasse 7

It all began with the purchase and renovation of the house at Speckstraße 7. The old half-timbered building with front and rear wings, which had been vacant since 2004, was so badly damaged that many observers considered it ready for demolition. However, the members of the cooperative, along with other half-timbered building enthusiasts and activists from all over Germany, took up the challenge.

Coinciding with the Monument Art Festival in Hann. Münden on 27 September 2013, the 9mal24 project was launched with the aim of renovating the old house on Speckstraße as much as possible in just 9 days, 24 hours a day – with the voluntary help of citizens, planners, craftsmen and construction workers from all over Germany.

During 9mal24, work was carried out in at least two shifts, sometimes around the clock. +++ Over 190 construction workers, professionals and helpers were involved. +++ The project received numerous donations of materials and goods (from private individuals and companies). +++ Citizens from all age groups and walks of life took part. +++ The youngest helper was 8 years old, the oldest helper was 80 years old. +++ Since 9mal24 was launched, around 10,000 hours of voluntary work have been carried out. +++ Volunteers provided meals for the construction workers.
